Music education for every kind of student

I am a music educator with over 10 years of experience teaching both domestically and internationally in middle and high school. My work has included small groups of just seven students to combined groups over 100, and every level of young musician from beginning middle school students to advanced high school students.

My teaching is focused on the inclusion of students from all backgrounds, and I have been fortunate enough to teach students from all over the world and from every socioeconomic status.

Regardless of background, my aim is to create a positive environment where students perform at a high level and learn important life skills through music.

Wind Bands & Jazz

  • Beginner students of all grade levels through advanced high school groups

  • Bands as small as seven students to combined groups over 100

  • Consistent Superior ratings at region festivals

  • Experience in public Title I and private international schools

  • Growth of established programs and successful rebuilding of small programs

  • Extensive collaboration across musical disciplines

Marching Band

  • Non-competitive and exhibition field shows

  • Incorporating corps style and HBCU elements

  • Parade band for community events

  • 80-100+ piece pep bands for athletic events

Mariachi and Alternative Ensembles

  • Grew program that began with 10 students into multiple groups at every school in the district

  • First mariachi group to perform at state solo & ensemble in Washington

  • Helped establish new performing category with Washington Interscholastic Activities Association

  • Became one of the most recognized and requested groups in the area and necessitated hiring an additional teacher

International Education, program growth, and student retention

  • Began with small program of only 40 students - two groups were only seven and eight students each

  • Doubled enrollment within two years despite high turnover of international student body

  • Program now includes nearly one third of middle school student body

  • Increased difficulty of performance music while including beginner students at every grade level

Beyond the impressive growth in numbers, the quality of the program has reached a level I have not seen in my 20 years as a middle school principal. Our students perform at an exceptionally high level, and this success is directly attributable to Omar’s leadership, instruction, and dedication. This is especially meaningful to me, as I strongly believe in the connection between musical instruction and overall academic achievement.
